Al Brant is an Alberta-based singer, songwriter & guitarist. Besides performing solo or in a duo, Al plays with two bands, SMAC and Tacoy Ryde. He has also contributed his vocal talents to the Millennium Crew’s "21st Century Tango Suite" (including singing lead on the title track) and performs in the annual Christmas Carol Project (as the Ghost of Christmas Present and the undertaker). Al works as an "artist on the ward" for the University of Alberta Hospital.Al Brant first gained public attention by winning a talent competition at the Sidetrack Café which led to a recording session with George Blondhiem. At the same time, Al had begun working with Eddie Patterson who lent his guitar work to that session. One of the resulting songs found its way onto a K-97 Homegrown album in the late-80’s.
His musical ties with Eddie continued through playing with the Al Brant Band and recording the “Let it Fly” album in 1991. Al recorded a solo album, “Talking Stick”, in 1993 and another band album, "Al Brant & the Waterbirds" , in 1996. He can also be found singing with Tacoy Ryde on the 1999 "Blues on Whyte Compilation" and their long awaited CD, "Here's the Picture" whcih was released in 2004.
Al's recordings with the Stone Merchants and SMAC include the Merchants' self-titled compilation CD (1999) and "have another blue juice, mister" (2001) and SMAC's "Yigi Yigi" (2003) and "vox populi" (2004). He is currently working on a new solo CD with plans for a release later in 2005.
